Ficus lyrata, commonly known as the fiddle-leaf fig, is a popular houseplant that belongs to the Moraceae family. Native to the rainforests of Western Africa, specifically in Cameroon and Sierra Leone, it has gained significant popularity as an ornamental plant due to its large, glossy leaves and striking appearance.

The fiddle-leaf fig is known for its distinctive leaves, which are shaped like a violin or fiddle, hence its common name. The leaves are leathery and can grow up to 12-18 inches long and 8-12 inches wide. They have a rich, dark green color and prominent veins, which add to the plant's visual appeal. The leaves are deeply veined and have a wavy, undulating edge, giving them a unique and attractive texture.

In its natural habitat, Ficus lyrata can grow into a tall, tree-like plant, reaching heights of up to 40 feet. However, when cultivated as a houseplant, it usually remains smaller, typically around 2-6 feet in height. Its growth habit is upright and bushy, with a single trunk and dense foliage.

It prefers bright, indirect light, but direct sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the leaves. The plant needs a warm and humid environment. Regular misting or using a humidifier can help create the necessary humidity levels.

Proper watering is crucial for the fiddle-leaf fig. It should be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry, but overwatering should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. It's important to allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings.

It creates stunning presence and adds a touch of elegance to any indoor space. With proper attention and care, this remarkable plant can thrive and become a striking focal point in your home or office.
